As International Children's Day is approaching, Guangming Farm Grand View Garden will launch a theme activity for this special day: playing nostalgic Chinese childhood games.

The event, called "Returning to Childhood" (returning to parents' childhood), allows children to experience nostalgic themed games with their parents for free from June 1 to 4.

There were not very many electronic products or fancy snacks for the children decades ago. However, the marbles they won on weekends, the jumping rubber bands games they played with classmates after school, and the street games they played with friends were all sources of happiness for today's moms and dads during their childhood.

The nostalgic games include kicking shuttlecocks, rolling iron rings, throwing beanbags, and hooking ducks, among others.

The shuttlecock is essentially a weighted hacky sack that's passed from foot to foot by kicking. The object of the game is to keep it from touching the ground. Besides being played in the schoolyard, it is also very popular among today's senior citizens as a way for them to stay active.

Prizes will be offered for some of the game winners, the farm said.

In addition, there are vintage toy treasure boxes offered for tourists free of charge, which are filled with nostalgic toys such as rubber bands, marbles, stickers, yo-yo balls, and flip ropes, etc.

Tourists can also go to the Harvest Square to watch acrobatic performances or go to the Animal Theater to watch cute dogs jumping in circles and little pigs diving.
