Bolstered by the tertiary industry, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Guangming District grew strongly at 8.1 percent in the first three quarters of the year, ranking first in Shenzhen.

The added value of industries above a designated size and fixed asset investment grew by 5.4 percent and 28.3 percent, respectively, in the district, according to a third-quarter economic situation analysis meeting chaired by Guangming’s Party chief Wang Hongbin.

The promotion of scenic spots and tourism activities attracted a large number of tourists and propelled a relatively high growth in the turnover of the district’s hospitality industry. Total retail sales of consumer goods rose by 7.5 percent.

Wang pointed out that it was not easy for Guangming to achieve good momentum in steady economic growth in the first three quarters of the year under the complex and unstable external economic environment. However, it is necessary to be clearly aware of the district’s shortcomings in economic development.

In the next stage, Guangming will establish a vigorous economic mechanism, optimize the services for key enterprises, introduce high-quality firms, accelerate industrial investment, upgrade the consumer market and plan in advance the key work for next year, according to the meeting.

Wang requested that efforts be made for the construction of Guangming Science Town, the district’s economic development and the completion of all tasks throughout the year. Meanwhile, the district should ensure a stable and controllable work safety situation.
