Guangming population up by nearly 130% in 10 years

There are 1,095,300 residents living in Guangming District, which account for 6.24 percent of Shenzhen’s population, according to the result of the seventh national census in Shenzhen which was released by the municipal statistics bureau in May.

Compared with the statistics of the sixth census in 2010, the figure represents an increase of 614,400. With a growth rate of nearly 130 percent in 10 years, Guangming has become one of the districts with the fastest-growing population in Shenzhen.

Among the residents living in Guangming, the male population is 641,278; the female population is 454,011, taking up 41.45 percent of the total population. The gender ratio rose from 123.17 in 2010 to 141.25, which is higher than that of the city (122.43).

Subdistricts with more than 200,000 residents in Guangming are Matian (295,600), Yutang (211,600) and Gongming (200,000), accounting for 64.57 percent of the district’s total population.

Moreover, Guangming Subdistrict (7.75 percent), Fenghuang Subdistrict (9.70 percent) and Xinhu Subdistrict (10.78 percent) have become the three fastest-growing subdistricts, with population growth rate of 230 percent, 196.76 percent and 138.32 percent, respectively.

Being endowed with the tasks of building a "world-class science city" and "the northern center of Shenzhen," Guangming has become one of the most vigorously developing areas of Shenzhen.

The supporting facilities in Guangming have been gradually improved. In the past three years, Phase I of the Seventh Affiliated Hospital to Sun Yat-sen University has been completed and put into use; 20,580 new primary and secondary school admissions and nearly 18,000 new kindergarten admissions have been added; and 20,000 units of government-subsidized housing have been built in Guangming.
