In a move to bolster the synthetic biology sector in Guangming District, the National Biomanufacturing Industry Innovation Center has recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Xinmei Synthetic Biology Industrial Park.
This collaboration aims to integrate top-tier scientific research resources and industrial operational capabilities to establish a leading hub for the industrialization of synthetic biology technology.
The National Biomanufacturing Industry Innovation Center is recognized as China's first national-level innovation platform in biomanufacturing and serves as the only national industrial innovation center located in Shenzhen.
Adjacent to the north side of Sun Yat-sen University's Shenzhen Campus, the industrial park is designed as a high-end life sciences industrial hub. It primarily focuses on developing proof-of-concept, small-scale, and pilot-scale projects in areas such as biomaterials, biological food, bioreagents, and cosmetics.
Offering substantial cost advantages for production, the park features five factory buildings, one comprehensive office building, two dormitory buildings, and various auxiliary facilities. To meet the integrated needs of synthetic biology companies — which encompass research and development, small-scale testing, pilot testing, and production—the park has established six core supporting facilities. This one-stop setup is intended to support the future production and research requirements of synthetic biology enterprises, facilitating their innovative breakthroughs.
Additionally, the park is equipped with essential production facilities tailored to the synthetic biology industry, including a wastewater transfer and treatment station with a daily capacity of 150 tons of biopharmaceutical wastewater and 40 tons of chemical reagent wastewater. These facilities are designed to meet the daily wastewater treatment needs of businesses operating within the park. Moreover, advanced pollution prevention technologies, along with a cooling plant, provide robust support for production processes in the synthetic biomanufacturing sector.
To date, the district has successfully attracted 123 synthetic biology enterprises with a combined valuation nearing 40 billion yuan and an annual output value exceeding 4 billion yuan from its synthetic biology industry cluster.
