On the morning of June 20, Guangming District health bureau and Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology (SUAT) officially signed a landmark medical cooperation agreement, marking a new chapter in their strategic partnership aimed at mutual growth and innovation.

The collaboration will focus on advancing three critical areas: cell and gene therapy, medical-engineering integration, and brain-machine interface technologies. By leveraging cutting-edge medical research, both parties intend to drive high-quality healthcare development throughout Guangming District.

Zhu Dijian, Party secretary of SUAT, emphasized comprehensive cooperation between the university and Guangming District People’s Hospital. This includes joint efforts in scientific research, recruitment and training of top-tier talent, and public health initiatives. Leveraging the university's strengths in research capabilities, talent cultivation, and technology transfer, the partnership aims to build an integrated “industry-academia-research” medical platform, upgrade the hospital into a high-level medical institution, and contribute to the development of Guangming Science City.

Known for its distinctive educational philosophy of integrating industry with education and combining science with teaching, SUAT focuses on emerging engineering disciplines and new medical sciences. The university has established schools specializing in life health, pharmacy, and synthetic biology, providing fresh impetus for the coordinated development of medical care, research, education, and industry within Guangming Science City.

Guangming District People's Hospital, a large tertiary A-class comprehensive hospital, boasts a rich history and strong clinical capabilities. In 2023, it ranked in the top 20% nationally among tertiary Grade-A public hospitals. Outpatient and emergency visits exceeded 4.5 million in 2024—the second highest among tertiary Grade-A hospitals in Shenzhen.

This partnership will integrate SUAT's research innovation system with the hospital’s clinical resources, fostering interdisciplinary medical professionals fluent in both research and clinical practice. It aims to accelerate clinical application of advanced medical technologies and deepen integration across medical care, education, and research.
