Guangming District has delivered a strong industrial and economic performance during China’s 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–2024), recording an average annual GDP growth of 10% and pushing its total economic output past 170 billion yuan, according to official figures released on Dec. 24.
Over the past four years, the district’s value-added output of industrial enterprises above designated size grew at an average annual rate of 9.8%, while the value added of strategic emerging industries posted even faster growth of 10.4% per year. Three major pillar industrial clusters have reached a combined scale of more than 400 billion yuan.
Meanwhile, future industries such as synthetic biology and brain science have achieved a combined valuation exceeding 50 billion yuan. The district has risen to 20th nationwide among China’s top industrial districts.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Guangming has fully implemented Shenzhen’s “20+8” industrial cluster strategy, building a “3+3+1” development framework. This includes three strategic priority clusters — biomedicine, high-end medical devices, and artificial intelligence; three advantage-leading clusters — UHD video display, high-performance materials, and intelligent sensors; and one future-oriented cluster centered on synthetic biology.
Enterprises have been a key driver of this growth. More than 100,000 companies are now based in Guangming, including 35 listed firms, 1,063 “specialized and sophisticated” enterprises, and 2,273 national high-tech enterprises. Local authorities have emphasized close government–enterprise collaboration to support business expansion and long-term development.
Industrial clustering has provided a solid backbone for high-quality growth. Flagship clusters led by companies such as BTR and Sunwoda have strengthened Guangming’s position as a major hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation.
With a well-established industrial ecosystem and rapidly accelerating innovation capacity, Guangming is positioning itself for continued high-quality development in the years ahead.
