Guangming District has launched a public service platform for cell and gene therapy (CGT), marking a significant step toward strengthening industry support services and advancing the integration of technology, finance and biomedical innovation.
The platform was unveiled during a recent forum on CGT innovation and global development, which brought together leading domestic and international experts, researchers and companies to discuss technology commercialization and China-Europe collaboration.
The platform was jointly established by the district-owned Guangming Science and Technology Development Group and biotechnology company CellBri with a registered capital of 50 million yuan (US$7 million).
Its first phase covers approximately 1,200 square meters and includes automated cell-processing systems, closed manufacturing facilities and cleanroom environments. The facility aims to reduce development costs and lower barriers for early-stage companies through ready-to-use infrastructure and shared technical resources.
At the forum, experts from across the CGT industry discussed advances in solid-tumor cell therapies and tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) technologies, while representatives from Spain's research and healthcare sectors explored opportunities for cross-border collaboration and regulatory cooperation in Europe.
As one of Shenzhen’s priority future industries, CGT is rapidly emerging as a key growth area in biomedicine. Leveraging the research infrastructure, university resources, industrial funds and AI-driven innovation ecosystem of Guangming Science City, Guangming is building a comprehensive CGT industry chain spanning upstream equipment and materials, drug development and manufacturing services, and clinical research and applications.
