Guangming Science City in Guangming District has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing the 7th position on the prestigious Top 100 Science and Technology Cities in China list.

It was ranked 15th in 2023 and 24th in 2022, showcasing its consistent upward trajectory.

The list, unveiled by the CCID (China Center for Information Industry Development) Consulting Urban Economic Research Center, highlights the science city's rapid advancement. The evaluation assessed the competitiveness and development potential of 348 science and technology cities across China using data on basic infrastructure, technological innovation, urban capacity, and resource support.

Established in 2018 by the city government, Guangming Science City was envisioned as a focal point for cutting-edge technological innovation and scientific breakthroughs. Approval from the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2020 further solidified its role as a key area, along with the Songshan Lake Science City in Dongguan, for constructing a comprehensive national scientific center within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The science city has made significant strides in key industries such as ultra-high-definition video displays, new materials, and advanced medical equipment, driven by a strategic focus on infrastructure development and talent acquisition. This focus has not only advanced the science city's development but also benefited Guangming District, positioning it as a hub for industrial and technological innovation.

Its commitment to cultivating high-level talent is evident through the formation of distinguished teams of top scholars, globally recognized researchers, academicians, and over 2,800 high-level professionals. This emphasis on innovation and talent has helped Guangming Science City build a complete ecosystem, from fundamental research to practical applications. Notable achievements include the successful launch and operation of three major cutting-edge scientific facilities: a synthetic biology research center, a brain analysis lab, and a material genomics large-scale research facility.
