Guangming District's BMX freestyle venue, located in Hongqiao Park, has undergone a comprehensive upgrade to become the official competition venue for BMX freestyle cycling events at the upcoming 15th National Games, the official Shenzhen Guangming WeChat account reported.

Built to meet international elite standards for extreme sports, the newly revamped facility has passed all necessary inspections and is now ready to host athletes competing on a global-caliber stage.

BMX freestyle competitions challenge riders to perform a series of tricks and stunts within a one-minute run, utilizing various terrain features like ramps and rails to demonstrate jumping, balance, and precision skills. The format is open and creative — with no fixed routes or mandatory tricks — encouraging riders to innovate their lines and styles while being scored on difficulty, execution, creativity, flow, and overall impression.

The thoughtful design of the park's obstacles plays a crucial role. According to An Di, president of Weilu (Suzhou) Sports Development Co., Ltd., the park's ramps, jumps, and spacing were scientifically designed to meet the dynamic needs of freestyle BMX, providing sufficient height and variety for riders to showcase a wide range of technical skills.

Weilu collaborates exclusively with the German company G.Ramps, a global leader in freestyle facility construction. Known for designing distinct BMX parks on five continents, G.Ramps' expertise guided the Hongqiao project to international benchmarks, including standards seen at the 2024 UCI BMX Freestyle World Championships in Abu Dhabi. Four foreign experts provided on-site guidance to ensure the venue inspires creativity and peak performance.

Originating in the 1960s in the United States as Bicycle Moto Cross, BMX has evolved into a thrilling extreme sport governed by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). BMX freestyle and skateboarding made their Olympic debut in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. China's Deng Yawen captured the country's first Olympic gold in BMX freestyle at the Paris 2024 Olympics, significantly raising the sport's profile nationwide.

This momentum has sparked greater enthusiasm among Chinese youth and sports fans. At the fiercely competitive 2024 Guangdong Youth BMX Freestyle Championships, Shenzhen's Liu Haoran won the men's B group final.
