The Yutang Community Hospital, operated by the Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (SAHSYSU), officially opened its doors May 11.
This long-awaited facility promises to deliver "top-tier medical services right at residents' doorsteps" to the area's 260,000 inhabitants.
Equipped with state-of-the-art medical technologies, including a 64-slice CT scanner, the new community hospital marks a significant upgrade in the infrastructure of local healthcare. A one-click referral system enables critically ill patients to be quickly transferred to SAHSYSU for advanced treatment. Specialists from SAHSYSU will regularly rotate through the hospital to provide expert consultations, ensuring accessible, high-quality care for residents.
Funded by the Guangming District Government and operated by SAHSYSU, Yutang Community Hospital integrates prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and health management within a comprehensive care model. The hospital features more than 10 clinical and wellness departments ranging from emergency care and general practice to pediatrics, traditional Chinese medicine, and dentistry. With 53 beds and an emphasis on establishing specialist clinics and family doctor teams, the facility operates under a "primary care first, two-way referral" system. This model facilitates effective treatment of minor ailments at the community level, with seamless referrals to SAHSYSU for serious conditions.
Hospital Dean Zheng Zhihua highlighted that the new facility's advanced infrastructure represents a breakthrough in grassroots healthcare. The streamlined referral process and expert consultations aim to make high-end medical services readily available to Yutang residents.
The hospital's inauguration coincided with SAHSYSU's 7th anniversary celebrations. To mark the occasion, the two institutions jointly hosted a large-scale free clinic event featuring 100 renowned doctors and serving 6,251 patients in a single day, reflecting strong community engagement and support.
By adopting a government-led model under the management of a top-tier hospital, Guangming District has pioneered an efficient approach to extending quality medical resources to grassroots levels.
