Guangming District has taken a new step toward the internationalization and modernization of its primary healthcare system with the launch of its first batch of Hong Kong–style Gold Family Doctor Clinics, which will introduce cross-border commercial insurance direct payment services and are scheduled to begin consultations in January next year.
The milestone was marked recently by a plaque-awarding ceremony for the new clinics, alongside the graduation ceremony of the district’s inaugural GOLD training program. The event signaled significant progress in making grassroots healthcare more accessible, convenient, and aligned with international standards.
At the ceremony, 28 trainees in Guangming District received completion certificates after finishing the Gold Family Doctor training program. Meanwhile, seven community health service centers were officially designated as “Hong Kong–Style Gold Family Doctor Clinics.” As pilot sites, these centers will be the first to offer cross-border commercial insurance direct payment, helping to simplify medical expense settlement for residents.
A representative of the Greater Bay Area Healthcare Group said the initiative would further deepen medical cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Officials from the Guangming District Health Bureau noted that the program integrates access to top-tier medical resources with internationally oriented general practice services available within local communities, describing it as a key step in upgrading primary healthcare.
The seven clinics are expected to officially open in January 2026. Once in operation, they will enable more residents in Guangming to receive internationally aligned general medical services close to home, benefit from convenient cross-border insurance settlement, and enjoy comprehensive, family-oriented, and life-cycle health management services.
