Guangming District said its tourism market grew sharply during the New Year's Day holiday, receiving 318,800 visitors, representing an average daily increase of 30.55% year on year. Tourism spending reached 136 million yuan (US$18.6 million), up 43.25% on an average daily basis, according to official data.
Five sectors closely tied to travel consumption — scenic attractions, hotels, restaurants, major shopping areas and municipal parks — all recorded double-digit growth in visitor flow and revenue, the district’s culture and tourism bureau said.
Local authorities organized more than 40 cultural and leisure events under an event plan running from Jan. 1 to 3.
Major draws included a New Year's countdown event at the Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum and the opening of the Hongyun Grand Bazaar at Hongqiao Park.
The Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum, promoted as a new tech-tourism landmark, hosted nearly 100 events centered on the science-themed countdown.
Major scenic sites received around 109,900 visits and generated 4.3969 million yuan in revenue, with visitor numbers rising 150.9% year on year and revenue increasing 66.4% in average daily terms, the bureau said.
Guangming also launched joint promotions with sports and retail partners. Hotels and restaurants in event areas offered discounts, and several hotels introduced packages with discounts of up to 50% aimed at boosting overnight stays, officials said.
