A team of students from Guangming Senior High School has won a gold medal at the 29th Archimedes International Exhibition of Inventions and Innovative Technologies, recently held in Moscow. The event drew more than 600 projects from over 20 countries.

The award-winning project, a carbon monoxide poisoning prevention device powered by energy captured from an internal combustion engine’s shutdown line, is designed to operate without an external power source. The system can monitor carbon monoxide levels inside a vehicle in real time and automatically activate an exhaust intervention mechanism when dangerous levels are detected, reducing risks associated with idling in enclosed spaces.

The students spent nearly a year developing the device, overcoming technical challenges including circuit interference and false triggering. The team said the product features a low cost, strong reliability and high scalability, and has already been filed for a utility model patent.

Team members expressed hope that the device can be mass-produced and brought to market to help prevent carbon monoxide poisoning incidents.

The Archimedes exhibition, supported by multiple international organizations, is considered a major global event in the field of invention and innovation, with a rigorous evaluation process.
