The modern dance work “Nomadic” by Hu Shenyuan, a Guangming District–based artist and artistic director of the Shenzhen Contemporary Dance Troupe, recently made its overseas debut in Russia, drawing full houses and enthusiastic acclaim. Local media praised the performance as “a deeply moving Oriental dance poem,” highlighting Shenzhen’s cultural creativity on the world stage.

Building on that success, the troupe has launched a nationwide tour of its original Guangming production “The Reunion of Oasis.” Inspired by a late Tang Dynasty envoy’s story and the Mogao Grottoes murals, the dance blends traditional Dunhuang movement with modern choreography to dramatize envoy Gao Jinda’s perilous four-year journey to deliver messages back to the Tang court, portraying personal dedication and cultural heritage.
The production has already been performed in 17 cities across China with 32 shows, earning an average occupancy rate of over 90 percent and generating widespread acclaim.
The current tour, running from April through June, will span 12 cities including Changzhou, Changsha, Chongqing, Hengyang, Dongguan, Ganzhou, Kunshan, Shanghai, Yixing, Hangzhou, Yantai, and Binzhou, totaling 24 performances.
The Shenzhen Contemporary Dance Troupe has also added several young graduates from China’s leading arts institutions this year, enhancing the ensemble’s energy and creative potential.
