The South Wing of Shenzhen’s Guangming Science Park will open on May 1, with a variety of free activities planned throughout the Labor Day holiday.
The opening will provide public access to lawns, plazas, a children’s playground, baseball and hockey fields, and themed gardens. The area is designed as a family-friendly green space.
Activity highlights
Science & technology exhibits (May 1-5)
Interactive exhibits including robotic arm sketching, VR space exploration, AI panoramic photography, and 3D printing will operate from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the lawn area.
Daily live experiments featuring liquid nitrogen clouds, electrostatic balls, and “flame palm” demonstrations will be held at the playground area at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Entertainment & night events
A live band performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. on May 1, followed by a firefly light show from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. throughout the holiday.
A stage adaptation of “The Wizard of Oz” will be performed twice on May 1 at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Futuristic mecha suits will be available for photos each afternoon from May 1 to 5.
Family-friendly activities
A ticketed scavenger hunt for children ages 3-12 will be held in two daily sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., with 500 slots available each day.
Amenities
A tech-themed coffee pop-up, smart retail kiosks, and a cultural and creative products market will operate daily. A complimentary sightseeing train will offer 40 reserved seats per day for children.
