As cities seek smarter solutions to urban governance challenges, a Shenzhen-based technology company is helping transform one of the most labor-intensive aspects of municipal sanitation: garbage bin cleaning.

Dirty and foul-smelling garbage bins have long posed challenges for urban management, while sanitation companies have struggled with labor shortages and the physically demanding nature of manual cleaning work. Traditional cleaning methods have also yielded inconsistent results, complicating government oversight efforts.

Shenzhen Hongchengyu Technology Co., Ltd. has developed an intelligent bin-washing machine that is gaining traction among municipal service providers by improving efficiency, reducing labor intensity and enhancing sanitation standards.

According to the company, its intelligent cleaning system can wash a garbage bin in about 50 seconds, compared with the five to six minutes required for manual cleaning, increasing efficiency by 300% while reducing energy consumption by 10%.

The automated system allows a single operator to complete tasks that previously required multiple workers performing strenuous manual labor. It also minimizes wastewater and residual waste generated during the cleaning process.

The technology has enabled Guangming District to shift from weekly garbage bin cleaning to daily cleaning and maintenance. Equipped with integrated physical and chemical sterilization functions, the machines help reduce odors and prevent the spread of bacteria.

Each machine is also equipped with digital monitoring modules capable of tracking cleaning volumes in real time and connecting directly to municipal management systems, providing authorities with transparent and data-driven performance assessments.

The cleaning machines have now been deployed across all garbage transfer stations in the district, achieving full coverage of mechanized deep cleaning for urban waste bins.
