More than 100 students and teachers attending the first SMART International Summer School in Shenzhen visited the Shenzhen International Art Museum for an immersive cultural and artistic exchange.

The group comprised 21 international students, 80 Chinese students, including young Chinese scholars from overseas universities, and one foreign teacher. Through a range of artworks, the participants explored the connections between traditional Chinese culture and contemporary art, fostering dialogue between young people from different backgrounds.

During the visit, students viewed artist Song Dong’s installation "The Window of the World" made from recycled doors, windows and everyday objects, and experienced a celestial-themed installation in the museum’s atrium. They also explored the "Characters in Wonderland" exhibition, where many international students tried Chinese calligraphy and gained a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of Chinese characters.

The students also experienced interactive contemporary artworks, including installations by Olafur Eliasson and Zadok Ben-David. They exchanged ideas and shared interpretations of the works across cultures.

The visit, part of the cultural program of the SMART International Summer School, used art as a bridge for international exchange, allowing young researchers to connect scientific thinking with artistic creativity while gaining a closer understanding of Chinese culture. Participants said the experience showed that both science and art can transcend borders and bring different civilizations closer together.
