An Irish tourist who fractured her right wrist while visiting Shenzhen has safely returned home after receiving prompt treatment and comprehensive international medical assistance at Sun Yat-sen University Shenzhen International Medical Center in Guangming.

The tourist, identified as Tracy, fell recently while traveling in Shenzhen and developed severe swelling and pain in her right wrist. Concerned about seeking medical care in a foreign country, she and her family contacted the medical center, which quickly activated its emergency protocol for international patients.

An orthopedic team diagnosed her with a distal radius fracture and provided pain management and immobilization. English-speaking medical staff accompanied Tracy throughout the treatment process.

The center also coordinated with the airline after Tracy was told she needed a medical clearance certificate and complete medical records in English before flying. Doctors assessed her condition, confirmed she was fit to travel and prepared standardized bilingual medical documents, including her medical record and diagnosis certificate. The documents were accepted by the airline.

Tracy later sent a message thanking the medical team for its efficient and attentive service, saying the assistance had eased the challenges of receiving medical care abroad.

As Shenzhen prepares to host the APEC meetings in 2026, the city is strengthening services for international visitors. The medical center has upgraded its emergency response, cross-border medical support and bilingual services to improve access to care for foreign visitors and showcase Shenzhen's international medical capabilities.
