Science museum to close briefly for upgrades

Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum will temporarily close from Sept. 1 to Sept. 4 for upgrades and maintenance on selected exhibits and interactive installations, the museum announced. 

The museum welcomed more than 700,000 visitors from around the world during the summer vacation, while more than 10,000 people participated in its educational programs covering frontier fields including new energy, drones and deep-sea and deep-space exploration.

More than 1,600 science and educational activities were held during the summer, attracting over 400,000 participants. The programs included nearly 400 science performances, more than 500 maker activities, science theater shows, family programs and more than 700 youth innovation challenge sessions, helping boost engagement with the museum's 950 permanent exhibits.

The museum's Kunpeng Hall also hosted 16 themed events during the summer, in collaboration with more than 50 institutions and companies, including Bank of Communications and BYD. The events covered financial technology, new-energy product launches and youth innovation.

The museum is normally open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. It is closed on Mondays, except during public holidays.
