More than 4,000 residents and visitors gathered at Guangming Lake on Aug. 29 for an evening combining cycling, live music and outdoor leisure, turning the lakeside into a lively urban gathering place.

About 120 cycling enthusiasts rode along the newly opened Guangming Lake Greenway, covering a roughly 10-kilometer loop around the lake. The route offers views of the lake and surrounding hills, while connecting modern science and technology facilities with rural landscapes.

The event also featured an open-air live music performance on the lake-viewing bridge, where musicians performed by the lakeside as visitors listened, took photos and enjoyed the evening breeze. Families and children joined the crowd, giving the event the atmosphere of a community gathering rather than a traditional concert.

The Guangming Lake Greenway officially opened in June. The waterfront corridor includes a 932-meter viewing bridge and a cycling network extending for 18.8 kilometers, with paths branching beyond the roughly 10-kilometer loop around the lake.

The event highlighted how Guangming is integrating its natural environment with the development of Guangming Science City, offering residents more opportunities to enjoy outdoor recreation and cultural activities close to home.

The district has been promoting itself as a “science city in the countryside,” seeking to combine scientific innovation with forests, fields, lakes and urban life.
