Guangming-based medical device maker Hugest Medical has received regulatory approval for an electronic automated anti-choking device, which the company says is the first of its kind in China to be approved as a Class II medical device.

Founded in 2019, Hugest focuses on medical technologies related to neuroscience, pain medicine and emergency care. 

The newly approved device is designed to remove airway obstructions through automated negative-pressure suction. Unlike conventional devices that require users to manually generate pressure, the new system uses electronic power storage and can be activated with a single button. It provides separate settings for adults and children and can be used without removing the mask during continuous suction.

Hugest said the device has undergone more than 10,000 performance tests and is covered by dozens of patents in China and overseas. Its registration as a Class II medical device follows relevant classification guidelines issued by the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control.

The approval marks a new step for the company in the emergency-care field, as it expands its portfolio beyond its existing work in neuroscience and minimally invasive medical devices.
