In 1997, when China resumed exercising sovereignty over Hong Kong, local fishermen and farmers from Shenzhen and Hong Kong jointly raised funds to build the Pavilion of Hong Kong's Return atop Daboshan Peak in Guangming. The pavilion's name was inscribed by Mr. Tung Chee-hwa, the first chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, commemorating Hong Kong's return after more than a century.

In 2019, the Guangming District Government renovated the pavilion and its surrounding landscape, transforming the site into a memorial park. The park now serves both as a patriotic education base themed around Hong Kong's return and a distinctive cultural landmark.
