A ceremony was held in Xinhu Subdistrict in Guangming District to mark the opening of Weiguang Life Science Park (Phase II) on Oct. 27, Bao'an Daily reported.

The Research Report on the Development of Biomedical Industry in Shenzhen was also released.

Weiguang Life Science Park covers an area of 66,700 square meters and is constructed in three phases.

The first and second phases, which have been opened, cover a total construction area of 200,000 square meters. Currently, nearly 30 high-quality biomedical enterprises have been introduced into the industrial park, with a total financing of over 1 billion yuan (US$136.65 million) and total valuation reaching nearly 10 billion yuan.

Nearly 200 intellectual property rights have been applied for, and over 40 high-level talents have been introduced.

The park focuses on synthetic biology, brain science, and other key fields, and builds core technology platforms for genes, macromolecules, and cells. It is the first professional benchmarking park for biomedicine in China with the transformation of synthetic biology achievements as one of its characteristics.
