The first "Guangming Cup" cross-Strait cycling race kicked off in Guangming District on Nov. 18, attracting 210 competitors from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao.
This event is an important part of the 2023 Cross-Strait Exchange Month series of activities, hosted by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government and organized by the Guangming District Government and the Shenzhen Taiwan Business Association.
Li Wenhui, vice president of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait, said in his speech during the launch ceremony that the cycling race is not only an exchange for the athletes, but promotes friendship across the Taiwan Strait. He hoped that compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and those from Hong Kong and Macao would use bicycles as a bridge to enhance friendship and seek common development.
Several rounds of competitions were held Nov. 18 and 19 to determine the champions of each category. Nearly half of the participants came from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao.
During the competition, the first Smart Manufacturing Industry Ecology Conference was held simultaneously to improve cross-Strait industry exchanges.
The district government, focusing on advocating sports for health, has made various efforts to build outdoor sports facilities.
It has successively built several high-level cycling venues such as the Hongqiao Park Mountain Bike Trail, the Cross-country Cycling Course, and the Lake Road.
It has created a beautiful and smooth riding environment, laying 20 kilometers of professional extreme cycling trails, 50 kilometers of natural exploration cycling trails, 60 kilometers of waterfront leisure cycling trails, and 70 kilometers of urban sightseeing cycling trails.
Based on these facilities, the district has vigorously developed cycling events, holding the 2023 Shenzhen International Road Cycling Race and Shenzhen Road Cycling Elite Invitational Tournament.
At the same time, the district boasts a number of leading bicycle enterprises such as Xidesheng and Camp Bicycle, forming a unique bicycle industry cluster, which creates unique conditions for the successful holding of the "Guangming Cup" cycling race.
