Shenzhen had built 845 baby care rooms in public places across the city as of the end of July, exceeding its target of building more than 800 baby care rooms by the end of 2020, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.
The 845 baby care rooms are in a wide variety of public places such as shopping malls, hospitals, parks, transportation hubs and government affairs service centers in various districts, including 135 in Futian, 67 in Luohu, 16 in Yantian, 115 in Nanshan, 192 in Bao'an, 131 in Longgang, 84 in Longhua, 64 in Pingshan, 29 in Guangming and 12 in Dapeng New Area.
It is expected that the total number of baby care rooms in Shenzhen will reach 1,000 by the end of this year, according to Shenzhen Women's Federation and the Office of Shenzhen Municipal Working Committee on Children and Women.
Though the size, facilities and environment of the rooms may differ, all baby care rooms are equipped with seats for breast feeding, desks for diaper changing and a sink that can satisfy the basic needs of baby care.
Some baby care rooms also have sterilizers, milk warmers and microwave ovens, and are staffed with sanitation workers to do the cleaning.
During the epidemic, special efforts were made to strengthen disinfection, ventilation and replacement of articles in the rooms.
In order to help new moms rapidly find the nearest baby care rooms, Shenzhen has developed and launched an online map system where information about the existing 845 baby care rooms can be found.
Residents can find the map by following the official WeChat accounts of each district's women's federation, "深圳女声" (sznvsheng), or "深圳市妇女儿童发展基金会" (sz-wcdf).
Shenzhen has also cooperated with Baidu Map to update the information of baby care rooms on the Baidu Map app.
When a search is performed, the location of the rooms will be automatically displayed in a list sorted by distance and marked on the map.
