According to the recently released Guangming district government investment projects plan for the year 2020, the district government will invest in 446 projects worth a total of 64.268 billion yuan (US$9.2546 billion) in 2020, covering four main areas: infrastructure, public service, city governance and management of geological disasters.

Currently, the construction of Guangming Science City and a center of northern Shenzhen is in a key period. The investment plan aims to grab this opportunity to focus on projects in the public domain which are difficult to gather market resources effectively, such as environment protection, facilities and city governance, and put into practice the guidance of government funds to ensure the healthy social and economic development.

Among the projects, 352 are construction projects and 94 are preparatory projects. The focus lies in environmentally friendly water service, road traffic, education and culture, and urban quality. Annual investment will reach 11 billion yuan.

Among them, the annual investment in municipal infrastructure is 4.088 billion yuan, accounting for 37.16 percent of the total annual investment. It includes water control and treatment, road traffic, electricity and gas.

Public service is also one of the key areas for government investment. The annual investment is 3.383 billion yuan, accounting for 30.75 percent. Education is an important livelihood project, which is also one of the areas Guangming District has been striving to improve.

This year, the district government will invest over 2.1 billion yuan in education, covering 37 projects including the expansion project of Yulv School, the primary school attached to Sun Yat-sen University and the construction project of Shenzhen Experimental School in Guangming.

In recent years, Guangming has continued to upgrade the quality of urban life, with most of the tourist sites going viral online. This year, the district government will invest 1.59 billion yuan in urban governance, accounting for 14.44 percent. Among them, 0.86 billion yuan will be used for park greening, including 58 projects such as the sports forest park in Guangming Town and the green way (Phase I) in Dadingling Forest Park. The upgrading of urban villages is also a key part of urban governance.
