After 22 months' construction, Sun Yat-sen University Shenzhen Campus welcomed its first batch of students Aug. 24.
The first batch of students to settle on the new campus are from the second to fourth grades of five engineering schools, including the School of Materials, School of Biomedical Engineering, School of Intelligent Systems Engineering, School of Electronics and Communication Engineering and School of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
There were four batches of a total of around 2,346 students who moved in during the two days of Aug. 24 and 25. At the same time, around 500 teachers also moved in. The new semester is to start Aug. 31.

The first batch of buildings and services made available include the west teaching building of the campus, the stadium, roads, landscaping projects, electricity, heating and ventilation and drainage.
Sun Yat-sen University Shenzhen Campus is located in Guangming District. It's a core project of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao science and technology innovation corridor and Shenzhen's "north expansion" strategy.
The campus covers 144.82 hectares and has a total construction area of 1.29 million square meters. It's expected ultimately to have 20,000 students on campus.
