Aug. 18 marks the one-year anniversary of the official opening of Shenzhen Metro Line 6. Line 6 was officially put into service at 12 p.m. Aug. 18 last year, ending the history of no Metro lines in Guangming.

The operation of the Metro line injects speed in the daily life in Guangming District, reducing people’s transit time and making travel between Guangming District and other districts more convenient, as well as facilitating the development of commerce and tourism along the line.

For a long time, public transportation in Guangming District was not very convenient and it took a long time for people in the district to take different bus lines to reach the city center and other areas.

"In the past when I traveled to other districts from Gangming, it took me more than two hours. Even the taxi drivers didn't want to come to Guangming. It was very inconvenient. Now with the operation of the Metro line, life is much easier and more convenient," said Mr. Wang who has been living for more than 10 years in Guangming.

The operation of Line 6 is of great significance to the development of Guangming District. It has changed the transportation layout of the district, greatly improved citizens’ mobility and facilitated resource sharing with the whole city.

Currently, Guangming is not only home to the traditional treasures but also to the popular Hongqiao Park, Guangming Lake, the green way along Maozhou River and the Guangming Science City whose construction is in full swing. The operation of the Metro line makes it easier for citizens to enjoy all these treasures.

As the first large-scale commercial complex in Guanging District, Maxland welcomes more customers with the operation of Metro Line 6. The commercial complex lies not far away from Exit D of Gongming Square Station.

"My girlfriend and I always take the Metro to Maxland, shopping and watching movies. It’s very convenient. There are many things for young people," said Mr. He who lives near Fenghuang Town Station where supporting facilities are yet underdeveloped.

For Miss Zeng who lives in Xinzhuang Community, Metro Line 6 makes it easier for her to visit her parents in Longhua and vice versa. "In the past I drove to visit my parents but there were always traffic jams, especially during the traffic peak on Friday. Now with the Metro station right at the door step, I don't need to worry about traffic jams," said Zeng, who added that her parents also came to Guangming by Metro to climb Honghua Mountain and visit Hongqiao Park.

As it is the first Metro line put into operation in the district, the Guangming District Government attaches great importance to the landscape along Line 6. It has improved a total of 17.2 kilometers of landscape along the line, has moved or beautified 35 box-type transformer substations, and has built three parks with a total area of 90,000 square meters. The total greening enhancement area reached about 190,000 square meters.
