In 2021, the GDP of Guangming District reached 128.53 billion yuan (US$20.2 billion), representing a 12.9-percent growth year on year, and a two-year average growth of 9.3 percent.
The added value of its secondary industry reached 87.55 billion yuan, representing an increase of 15 percent year on year, and a two-year average growth of 10.3 percent. The added value of the tertiary industry was 40.75 billion yuan, up 8.8 percent year on year and an average growth of 7.4 percent in the past two years.
In 2021, the pillar industries of Guangming District realized an added value of 81.51 billion yuan, accounting for more than 60 percent of its GDP, which drove its GDP growth by 8.3 percentage points. Among them, the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size increased 16 percent, 11.3 percentage points higher than the city’s average growth rate (4.7 percent). Companies including TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co. (TCL CSOT) and TP-Link also saw strong growth.
Strategic emerging industries including artificial intelligence and industrial Internet in Guangming District saw rapid development. The added value last year reached 70.14 billion yuan, up 18.9 percent and accounting for 54.6 percent of the district’s GDP.
In 2021, the investment in fixed assets increased 11.4 percent. The construction of trunk roads in Guangming Science City was accelerated, with the construction of Huayu Road completed and put into service, the main parts of Gongyuan Boulevard, Guanghui Boulevard and the north section of Tangming Road completed. The 2-sqaure-kilometer Science Park project started construction.
In 2021, the total consumer goods retail sales reached 21.99 billion yuan, an increase of 12.0 percent. The general public budget revenue of Guangming District increased 19.5 percent, and the general public budget expenditure increased 22.9 percent.
The district also pushed forward the high-quality development of education, spending 4.78 billion yuan on education the whole year, up 53.7 percent.
