The Second Session of the Seventh Shenzhen Municipal People's Congress, the city's legislature, is scheduled to open today and will conclude Wednesday.

The annual meeting for Shenzhen's lawmakers, along with the annual meeting of the city's political advisory body that opened yesterday, is a major event on the city's political calendar. The two meetings are often referred to as the "Two Sessions."

The lawmakers will deliberate the city government's work report, review the report on the implementation of the 2021 plan and the draft plan for the city's economic and social development in 2022 during the annual session.

The agenda will also include a review of the report on the execution of the local budgets for 2021 and the draft local budgets for 2022, among other staple documents.

Work reports of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People's Congress, Shenzhen Municipal Intermediate People's Court and Shenzhen Municipal People's Procuratorate will also be deliberated at the meeting.

The city's candidate projects for improving people's livelihood in 2022 will also be deliberated during the meeting, where lawmakers will vote for the first time on such projects.

The voting system for projects related to people's livelihood is an innovative practice of the local people’s congress in a bid to improve people's well-being from "for the people" to "by the people," according to the standing committee of the legislature.

Receiving favorable reviews, the system has been popularized in Guangdong Province and adopted by district-level legislatures across the city.

Meanwhile, the Second Session of the Seventh Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), another key political gathering in the city, opened yesterday. This annual meeting of the city's political advisory body will run until tomorrow.

During the session, political advisers will deliberate the work report of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPPCC and a report on how political advisers' proposals have been handled since last year's annual session of the city's political advisory body.

Political advisers will also hear a report on the examination of proposals submitted to this year's annual session and hold group discussions on promoting the city's development in various aspects.
