A press conference focusing on the high-quality development of Gongming Subdistrict was held at the public service platform of Guangming District on Sept. 9.
Huang Xiaoyu, director of the office of Gongming Subdistrict, introduced the large-scale scientific facility cluster of Guangming Science City. Located in the north of Guangming District, Gongming Subdistrict covers an area of 23.6 square kilometers with a population of 288,000 people.
The major part of Gongming Subdistrict is not included in the 99 square kilometers of Guangming Science City. In May last year, the outline of the spatial planning of Guangming Science City was released, which specified that the science city features three clusters of scientific research centers including the large-scale scientific facility cluster which is the main cluster, as well as the science and education integration cluster and the science and technology innovation cluster.
The large-scale scientific facility cluster is located in the north of Guangming District, with most of its area situated in Gongming Subdistrict, with an area of six square kilometers including a core area of five square kilometers and an extension area of one square kilometer. The core area will focus on the construction of world-class, scarce large scientific devices.
Gongming Subdistrict has its advantages in participating in the construction of the science city. First of all, it has a good industrial foundation. Gongming is home to over 3,000 enterprises. In the first half of this year, its year-on-year growth rate of both the total output value and the added value of enterprises above the designated size (enterprises with an annual operating revenue of at least 20 million yuan) all exceeded 30 percent, ranking second among the different subdistricts of Guangming District. The subdistrict has also introduced a number of major projects including the manufacturing base of Mindray high-end medical devices.
Second, the subdistrict has sufficient development space. It will soon finish the land integration of the five square kilometers' core area of the large-scale scientific facility cluster. At the same time, it will provide over 3 million square meters of industrial space via renovation and expansion.
Third, the subdistrict enjoys convenient transport. Metro Line 6 and 13 have set up a total of six stations in the subdistrict, the largest number in the district. There is interchange at Gongming Square Station. In the subdistrict, there are exits to the Longhua-Dalingshan and Nanshan-Guangming expressways.
Fourth, Gongming Subdistrict is endowed with rich natural resources including mountains and lakes. Maozhou River, Shenzhen's largest river, runs through the subdistrict. The core area of the greenway of Guangming section of Maozhou River and the key project of the greenway, Zuo'an Science and Technology Park, are located in the subdistrict.
Fifth, Gongming Subdistrict enjoys rich cultural and tourism resources. A number of cultural relics including Gongming Old Market Street, Gongming Granary and Dongbao Middle School are all located here. Additionally, major culture and sports facilities of the district including the Culture Center of Guangming District, Library of Guangming District, the sports center and Redwood Town are located in Gongming Subdistrict.
According to Huang, for its future development, Gongming Subdistrict will focus on one core, one belt, and four areas. One core refers to the core area of the large-scale scientific facility cluster; one belt refers to the vibrant waterfront belt of Maozhou River; and four areas refer to the supporting extension areas of the science city located to the north of Maozhou River in Xitian Community and Shangcun Community, the entertainment area in Li Songlang Community, the industry development area in Xiacun Community, and the modern commercial area to the south of Maozhou River in Gongming Community and Shangcun Community.
