Dongbao Middle School's original site is an ancient building with three adjacent halls, with an area of approximately 1,300 square meters in Xiacun Primary School in Xiacun Village.

Dongjiang Column, a guerrilla force led by the Communist Party of China, decided to establish Dongbao Middle School in the winter of 1944, to train anti-Japanese-aggression cadres and organize more people to join in the fight against Japanese invaders.

Three connected ancestral halls in Shuibei Village, Bao'an County (now Xiacun Village in Gongming Subdistrict) were selected as the site of the school, which was officially put into use in February 1945, with Zeng Sheng, commander of Dongjiang Column, as the honorary principal. It was the first anti-Japanese-aggression school in the area, and on April 10 of the same year, the school held a symposium on national affairs to discuss major events related to the resistance against Japanese invaders.

According to historical records, the ancestral halls were renovated then, with the central hall named "Maxim Gorky Room" and the left and right ones named "Lu Xun Room" and "Taofen Room" respectively.

In October 1945, Dongbao Middle School suspended operations as the civil war was approaching. In September 1956, the school reopened and was renamed Gongming Middle School in September 1960. After Gongming Middle School was relocated, it was later renamed to its current name Xiacun Primary School.

The school has a cultural heritage value and is also a scenic spot with revolutionary educational significance.

In August 2004, the Bao'an District Cultural Relics Management Committee announced that the school was listed in the "first batch of immovable cultural relics protection sites" in the district.

Xiacun Village, first built in 1255, is located in a hilly valley in the northern part of Shenzhen, with Maozhou River and Xitian Reservoir to the north. Most of the buildings in the village feature traditional Guangdong-style architecture, with 100 such buildings still existing now.

One representative building in Xiacun is Yiyanwei, which was built during the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty (1851-1861). The 300-square-meter building is currently an unclassified and immovable cultural relic protection site. The village also contains several ancestral halls, and among them is the 800-square-meter Chen ancestral hall, a brick and wooden structure district-level immovable cultural relic site.
