Gongming International Block is located in the northwest of Guangming District, adjacent to Xinhu Subdistrict to the east, Matian Subdistrict to the south, Yanluo Subdistrict to the west and Songshan Lake Science City in Dongguan to the north. The block covers an area of 23.6 square kilometers and has a permanent population of 237,000 people. It governs five communities including Gongming, Shangcun, Xiacun, Xitian and Lisonglang, 14 community joint-stock companies and one community company.

The area boasts over 3,000 industrial enterprises, including 399 enterprises above designated size, 450 national high-tech enterprises, two listed enterprises, one top 20 enterprise in the district, 10 top 100 enterprises in the district, and 62 specialized and sophisticated enterprises at or above the municipal level. Metro lines 6 and 13 have set up a total of six stations in the subdistrict.

In December 2022, Gongming International Block passed the appraisal for the first batch of international blocks in Shenzhen.

Guangming District's Second Party Congress bestowed Gongming the development positioning of "the core supporting area of Guangming Science City, the northern innovation driving engine and one of the Guangming Double Centers," illuminating Gongming's future development.

Taking into account its own advantages, Gongming has compiled a high-standard comprehensive plan focusing on three major development themes in science, industry and service. It is also exerting great effort to create a new Gongming at the foot of Honghua Mountain and by the banks of Maozhou River.

Gongming's ecological environment is spectacular, with abundant mountain and water resources. Maozhou River, the city's largest river, passes through the area. Towering mountains, cliffs and reservoirs form Gongming's "three mountains and five rivers" ecological pattern. Its air quality ranks first in the district and the five rivers' water quality has reached Class V or above national standards.

Along both Maozhou River's banks, the area features major cultural and sports projects such as the Left Bank Science and Technology Park, Shenzhen Youth Soccer Training Base and Guangming Deep Dive rowing club. It also has ecological landmarks like Honghua Mountain Park and Nanguang Park. The Gongming 25 community, known for its food stalls and restaurants, has been selected as one of the "Top 10 Typical Creative and Cultural Cases" in Guangming, and the area's environmental sanitation index remains at the forefront of the entire district.

Gongming has a good commercial foundation, with characteristic theme blocks such as Gongming Food Street, Night Pedestrian Street and Lingnan Bar Street, forming a characteristic night economic center.

Gongming's Guangming Mahogany Furniture Town has become a new popular tourist check-in destination. Its specialty cuisine includes "Gongming Three Delicacies" - roast pig, Gongming sausage and Gongming lai fun.

Gongming has a rich historical and cultural heritage, preserving a number of immovable cultural relics such as Gongming Old Market Street and Dongbao Middle School. The "Story of Chen Xiangu" was selected as the first batch of intangible cultural heritages in Shenzhen, and the subdistrict also boasts traditional cultures such as lion dances and tai chi.

Guangming Cultural Center, Guangming Library, Guangming Sports Center and other important cultural and sports facilities are located in Gongming. It also boasts Guangming's first museum with a theme of folk art objects - the Treasure Museum.

Gongming has a strong international atmosphere, providing services for foreign and overseas residents through the Guangming District Service Center for Overseas Personnel (Gongming Workstation).

The Shenzhen Central and Eastern European Countries Economy and Culture Promotion Association (Shenzhen CEEEC) is also located in Gongming, promoting exchanges between companies in Shenzhen and Central and Eastern European countries.

The subdistrict has achieved full coverage of bilingual signage in district transportation networks, commercial buildings, parks, schools and other areas.
